Campagnolo is following a precise choice, consistent with and founded on our technical and performance-based convictions.
The cups developed by the Campagnolo R&D team first and foremost maintain the performance features of the system that has been touted as absolutely the most efficient one ever presented on the two-wheel market: the Ultra Torque™ system.
So what are the differences and the advantages of the Campagnolo system compared to a crankset exclusively dedicated to the BB30?
- The "U" factor: allows the pedal to stay as parallel as possible with respect to the central axis of the cyclist; this gives the maximum efficiency of power transmission.
- The diameter of the bearings: the bearings used for the oversize cranksets have a larger diameter; the greater the diameter of a sphere, the greater its friction (>15%).
- The bearing seat: inserting it on the frame instead of on the pedal cranks is not a reliable solution due to the mechanical tolerance and the different material/expansion coefficient between the frame and the bearings. With the Campagnolo ULTRA-TORQUE OS-FIT cups™ system, the bearings are situated on the crankset; this provides higher reliability and makes replacement quick and easy in the event of wear.
- The forces applied on the bearings: the bearings of any system are constantly subject to stress caused by the forces applied on the pedals. This type of force causes the friction that leads to wear. The Campagnolo solution, thanks to the greater distance between the bearings with respect to a crankset dedicated to the BB30, makes it possible to reduce these applied forces to the minimum, with the consequence of prolonging the life of the bearings and reducing friction.
- The intelligent choice: Campagnolo ULTRA-TORQUE OS-FIT cups™ make it possible to keep the same crankset even if you decide to change the frame; this is why the Campagnolo solution combines the maximum performance with flexibility.
