One of the most significant developments of the 13 platform, for both Record and Super Record 13, is its gravel-specific evolution: the “X” rear derailleur.
Built on the same technical architecture as the Super Record 2x13 derailleur, it redefines shifting performance even on the roughest terrain. Thanks to an optimized derailleur path, it delivers smooth, fast, and immediate gear transitions—even under high pressure on the pedals —maximizing efficiency across the entire cassette range.
The key distinguishing feature compared to the road version is the new Nano Clutch, a miniaturized clutch that maintains optimal chain tension on uneven terrain and rough descents, preventing chain drops from the front chainring and ensuring maximum stability.
Combined with the dedicated 1x chainring tooth profile, the Nano Clutch forms a system specifically engineered to minimize chain drops even in the most demanding conditions.
The new architecture, with the rear derailleur positioned beneath the cassette, delivers a cleaner aesthetic, improved aerodynamics, and perfect alignment between pulleys and gear ratios. The result is quieter, more precise, and more reliable shifting. Despite similar size and weight to the road version, Record X offers category-leading impact resistance and cage stiffness.
Efficiency is further enhanced by two differentiated pulleys: the upper 12-tooth eccentric pulley maintains optimal chain distance even with large cassettes, while the oversized 16-tooth lower pulley improves chain engagement and smoothness. Both feature a profile designed to guide each link precisely, ensuring continuous and efficient chain flow.
Another key feature is the new cage geometry, with an extended body cage compatible with cassettes up to 48 teeth, ideal for tackling the steepest climbs. The crankset has also been optimized for gravel use, retaining Ultra-Torque technology with a 47.5 mm chainline — perfect for modern frames and increased tire clearance.
The derailleur features a universal mounting design, compatible with both UDH (Universal Derailleur Hanger) and traditional hangers. It is powered by a removable battery with a range of up to 750 km and ultra-fast charging: just 60 minutes are needed to reach full capacity. Battery status can be easily monitored via the integrated LED, the MyCampy app, or compatible cycle computers. The USB-C connector ensures full compatibility with modern devices, including smartphones that can be used as power banks in emergency situations.
The charging system and cable are shared across the entire 13 platform.
The design also reflects Campagnolo excellence: the front section of the cage is made of carbon with a direct-from-mold finish, while anodized aluminum components with tone on tone details and the refined branding highlight the brand’s attention to detail.
The result is smooth, fast, precise, and silent shifting even in the most extreme conditions. Additionally, thanks to compatibility with road 1x cranksets featuring a 45.8 mm chainline, the X derailleur enables single-chainring road setups with one of the widest gear ranges available on the market.
